China`s foreign exchange reserves unexpectedly fell below the closely watched $3 trillion level in January for the first time in nearly six years, even as authorities tried to curb outflows by tightening capital controls.

China forex reserves fall almost $100 billion in January
The world's largest currency hoard shrank by USD 99.5 billion in January to some USD 3.2 trillion, the People's Bank of China said on its website, the lowest since May 2012.
