Citizenship Act doesn't affect any Indian; those guilty of violence won't be spared: Ravi Shankar Prasad

Prasad added that the Act applies to the aggrieved Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis living in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who have been tortured due to their faith in religion. He further added that those who came to India in large numbers will be provided with citizenship under the Act asking 'why is there such hue and cry over it'.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal: Opposition is purposely spreading violence, AAP will however win elections

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is holding a press conference on Delhi violence that occurred on December 15 after the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill by Parliament. He said that the Aam Aadmi Party will win again in the upcoming Delhi elections 2020 and the opposition is purposely spreading violence in the capital. He added, however this won't affect the elections results.

Police arrests 6 people in connection with Seelampur violence

The Delhi Police has arrested six people in connection with the violence in Seelampur area on December 17. The arrests were made on December 18 morning. Raids are also being conducted to apprehend some other people who have also been identified.

SC asks Centre to reply on Citizenship Amendment Act, refuses to stay its implementation

A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice (CJI) SA Bobde and Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant heard the pleas and ordered that the next hearing will be on January 22, 2020. Pleading on behalf of the government Attorney General Venugopal said, "There are four judgments of the SC that the Act cannot be stayed."

Protests against Citizenship Act turn violent in Delhi, 10 arrested

Ten people have been arrested in connection with the violent protests that broke out on December 12 near Jamia Millia Islamia. In addition to these 10, many of whom have criminal backgrounds, a further 15 have been identified in raids. Although no students have been arrested so far, sources said cops had not yet given them a clean chit and they are still being investigated.

Jamia Millia violence was well-planned conspiracy, who is responsible?

The violence that broke out on December 15 evening after a protest march by Jamia Millia Islamia University students was well-planned and not a spontaneous one, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Kumar Gyanesh told the media on December 17 that an investigation was underway, and 10 people have been arrested. However, no student was among those taken into custody.

Tense situation in Delhi after violence in Jamia, Seelampur and Jafrabad

On December 17 in Delhi's area of Seelampur, protesters clashed with police. In order to disperse the protesters, police resorted to baton charges and fired tear gas shells. Violence in the area led to the temporary shutdown of seven metro stations. At the stations of Welcome, Jaffrabad, Maujpur-Babarpur, Seelampur, Gokulpuri, Johri Enclave and Shiv Vihar, exit and entrance gates were closed. The police claimed two traffic bikes.

Jamia CAA Protest: Delhi Police submits report to Home Ministry, 31 policemen injured

A total of 67 people, including students, and 31 police personnel were injured on December 15 after demonstrators protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act turned the New Friends Colony area near Jamia Millia Islamia into a battleground, the Delhi Police said in a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs on December 17.

CAA Protest: Violence erupts in Delhi's Jafrabad, school buses vandalised

After massive protests rocked the Jamia Millia Islamia University against the Citizenship Amendment Act, fresh violence broke out in Delhi's Jafrabad on December 18. Protesters in Jafrabad vandalized a number of buses. According to the latest inputs, a police bike was also set ablaze.

SC directs petitioners to approach respective HCs in Jamia, AMU anti-Citizenship Act protests

The court directed that the concerned High Courts will be at liberty to appoint former judges of either Supreme Court or High Court for the purpose of the inquiry. It also added that having regard to the nature of the matter and the vast disputed area, we find it would not be feasible to appoint a single committee to go into the matter in different states.
