In the upcoming Union Budget 2021-22, the Ministry of Railways may propose some measure that may refurbish IRCTC's revenue manifold. The plan is to look at ways to compensate for the losses incurred by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in its catering business because of the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The government is planning to implement this model in the Railways as it has been successful in the airline industry.

The direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme should be utilised more to support farmers instead of giving subsidies, said experts. "Food processing industry has played an important role in better price realisation for the farmer and reducing the cost of intermediaries. The budget must provide special incentives to food processing through incentives such as interest subvention, lower taxes, access to technology, and so on," DCM Shriram Chairman and Senior MD Ajay Shriram said.

Budget: Steel sector seeks relief in customs duty on key raw materials

The non-availability of these items in good quality and quantity hinders the growth of the steel industry, industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) said in its Budget recommendations for the sector. The basic customs import duty on anthracite coal is 2.5 per cent. The availability of the said item in "good quality" is declining in the country and the steel industry may have to become totally dependent on import of these on a regular basis, the body said while suggesting a reduction in import duty to nil.

"There is this tier-II NPS account which was made tax free exclusively for the central government employees recently. So there also, we would request the government to give the facility to all the subscribers. In the tax-free tier II account we are keeping a lock-in period of 3 years because you are getting the tax-free status...And we want it to be extended to all the other employees," he added.
