Apple Inc officials have met Commerce Ministry top brass amid its plans to open stores in India without initially having to source components locally.

There is some good news for Apple device fans. Indian government may allow the California-based company to open its own retail outlets in India without any sourcing requirement for two-to-three years.

A government panel has recommended exempting iPhone and iPad maker Apple from mandatory local sourcing norms, a move which would pave the way for tech giant opening single-brand retail stores in the country.
