Indian hockey team

Having won eight Olympics gold medals in hockey till date, India is the most successful team ever in the Games. In 1928, the team won its first Olympic gold medal and until 1956, the Indian men's team remained unbeaten in the Olympics, winning six gold medals in a row.

Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt is the reigning Olympic champion in three events, and the first man at the modern Olympic Games to win six gold medals in sprinting. The Lightning Bolt is the first athlete in the modern Olympics era to achieve the "double double" of winning 100 m and 200 m titles at consecutive games (2008 and 2012), and topped this through the first "double triple" (including 4×100 m relays).

Ilya Ilyin

In weightlifting, Ilya Ilyin of Kazakhstan holds the world record in the men’s 94 kilograms. He shattered all past records at clean and jerk event with 233 kilograms and at the total with 418 kilograms during the London Olympics.

Ye Shiwen

The 16-year-old swimming prodigy from China, Ye Shiwen, hogged all the limelight during London Olympics in 2012, when she set an incredible record in the 400 meters individual medley by taking mere 4:28.43 time in the final and even out-playing male swimmers in the final 100 meters with her time. It was also the first world record broken during the last Olympics.

David Rudisha

Kenyan is the first athlete to set a world record inside the Olympic stadium during the London Games in 2012. And with that he became the first person ever to run inside 1:41 in the 800 meters, setting the new record at 1:40.91.

Jennifer Beth Thompson

When it comes to female swimmers, Jennifer Beth Thompson of America is the most successful swimmer at the Games. Between 1992 to 2000, she won record 12 Olympic medals in total, eight of them are gold. Just behind Thompson is her compatriot and legendary swimmer Natalie Coughlin, who posseses 11 Olympic medals, which she won during 2004 and 2008 Olympics.

Michael Phelps

US swimmer Michael Phelps won eight gold medals during Beijing Olympics in 2008, a record in a single event. His total tally of Olympic medals is 16, out of which 14 are gold. And it makes him the most successful Olympic competitor ever in any sport.
