Pro Wrestling League: Owners yet to receive signed contracts from wrestlers

New Delhi: While the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) is all set to kick off in a few week's time, Pro-Sportify, the promoters, are in a state of panic as they are yet to get their hands on players agreements.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, the franchise owners, who spent approximately 11 crore at the auctions earlier this month, are yet to get the signed contracts from the wrestlers.

"We have been told the contracts are being drawn up, but it is the job of the federation and promoter to get it done. One goes to an auction with the assumption that the product has been acquired. As of now, I can't do anything as we don't have a contract. Obviously, for some reason if I don't get the player, it will make me upset and it will be dealt with in a manner it needs to be," a franchise official told HT.

Top officials, including Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan, held a meeting on Wednesday, where several important issues were discussed.

The inaugural edition of the Pro Wrestling League, to be held from December 10-27, will feature six teams. Apart from Uttar Pradesh, the other teams will be from Punjab, Bengaluru, Delhi, Haryana and Mumbai.

Each team has four categories of players -- international men (two players per team), international women (two players per team), Indian men (three players per team), and Indian women (two players per team).

The PWL will see a total of 18 matches including 15 in the league phase, apart from the semi-finals and final.
