New Delhi: The Union Government has decided to organise National School Games in a big way at four-five venues in the country every year in order to groom talent from a young age.

The objective is to ensure proper promotion and development of various games at the school level with the twin aim of early identification of talent and ensuring physical fitness of children, the Sports Ministry said in a release.

For the purpose of efficient organisation of the National School Games, the Department of Sports is joining hands with the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) for conduct of the Games and with the selected state governments for infrastructure.

The ministry said that participation of large number of children in the proposed National School Games from various parts of the country will not only contribute to the objective of sports promotion but also national unity and harmony.

A beginning in this regard is being made by supporting these Games in Kerala where they are proposed to be held this month, the ministry said.

A request received in this regard from government of Kerala to be the host of these Games has been accepted, it added.
