Indian Weightlifting Federation says tainted lifters got supplements from outside: Report

The tainted trio of Geeta Devi, Manpreet Kaur and Harkirat Kaur, had purchased food supplements from a shop in Ludhiana.

New Delhi: In the latest developments surrounding the tainted weightlifters who failed dope tests recently, the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) on Wednesday ckaimed they had bought food supplements from outside.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the IWF said in a statement on Wednesday that the tainted trio of Geeta Devi, Manpreet Kaur and Harkirat Kaur, had purchased food supplements from a shop in Ludhiana.

Reports claim that, Sahdev Yadav, vice-president of the IWF, said all three lifters had given this in writing to the federation and National Anti-Doping Agency.

The statement by the IWF said on Wednesday, “All three lifters also admitted during NADA’s first hearing as well as in the second hearing conducted on Monday that they had taken food supplements from outside the national coaching camp.”

The lifters have been provisionally suspended.
