Becks tipped to back LA’s 2024 Olympic bid

London: David Beckham, who helped bring the 2012 Olympics to his home city London, is now wanted by Los Angeles to back their 2024 Games bid.

The footie-star is being lined up again as an Olympics ambassador, if his adopted home of Los Angeles launches a bid for the 2024 Games.

“David helped to boost the popularity of soccer here since joining LA Galaxy and he is known by sports fans all over the world,” a daily quoted a US Olympic committee source, as saying.

“In London he was constantly being positive and saying the right thing. His face was in newspapers and on TV. That experience is vital."

“And his James Bond cameo went down extremely well on both sides of the Atlantic. He could make the difference between winning and losing,” the source added.

The LA Galaxy star, his wife Victoria and their four children, who live in a six-bedroom villa in Beverly Hills, are making the US move permanent and putting their Hertfordshire home on the market for 18 million pounds.

Los Angeles, which hosted in 1932 and 1984, is seen as the likeliest US city to bid in three years’ time. The winner will be revealed in 2017.
