New Delhi: Soon after Lionel Messi's fans vandalised the statute of Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal, the Real Madrid star's sister hit out at the perpetrators saying the vandals should go to Syria.
According to a report in Goal.com, soon after the incident took place, Katia Aveito suggested that those responsible would be better suited to life in a warzone in the Middle East.
“My beautiful island, regrettably, is still inhabited by some frustrated savages who deserve to live in Syria, between people that show no respect and hold no value for life in society.
“I apologise for the ones who live the sadness of war, but I believe some people don’t belong on the land they live in,” she wrote in a post.
Aveito also had tweeted images of Ronaldo's statue after it was vandalised.
Earlier, Ronaldo`s statue in Funchal, capital of his home island of Madeira, was tagged with the name and shirt number of arch-rival Messi.
The graffiti was put on the statue overnight on Tuesday, just hours after Barcelona`s Argentine star Messi claimed a fifth world player of the year award, beating out Real Madrid`s Portuguese striker and three-time Ballon d`Or winner Ronaldo in the process.
The name Messi and the number 10, both scrawled in red, had been cleaned off the statue.
Ronaldo unveiled the 3.40-metre-high bronze effigy of himself in December 2014 on the Funchal seafront, a few hundred metres from his own self-financed museum.
