Football leaks: Real Madrid had 'anti-Barcelona' clause in Angel Di Maria's Manchester United deal

New Delhi: In a startling revelation, whistle-blowing website Football Leaks claimed that Real Madrid inserted a no-Spain clause on Angel Di Maria's move to Manchester United in August 2014.

Football Leaks released the details of the transfer on Friday, claiming that the Spanish giants included a provision which would restrict selling Di Maria to other Spanish clubs, particularly their eternal rivals Barcelona.

The punitive anti-Barcelona clause spelled that United would be required to pay Real 50 million euros if they sold Di Maria before the end of the summer transfer window in 2015, 40 million euros if it is happened before 2016 and 30 million euros if sold before the end of his United contract.

The release claimed that the clause would be effective even if United sold him to a non-Spanish rival, which then in turn sold Di Maria to a Spanish club other than Real.

The Argentine joined the Old Trafford outfit in a 75 million euros deal, which was payable in three installments of 25 million euros each, in a five year contract.

But the former Benfica player abruptly ended his Manchester stint, moving to French champions Paris Saint-Germain in August 2015 for an undisclosed fee, in a four-year contract.

Besides this hostile transfer clause, the agreement also had other unheard of provisions like, a payment pf one million euro to Real every time United qualify for the Champions League group stage, and another 5 million euros if Di Maria was nominated in the top three of the Fifa Ballon d'Or award.

Last month, Football Leaks revealed that Real paid a world record fee of over 100 million euros for Gareth Bale, thus sparking a fury in the Santiago Bernabeu club.

Real have always claimed the Bale deal was worth 91.59 million euros, with Cristiano Ronaldo's fee eclipsing that at 96 million euros.
