FIFA scandal: Michel Platini files appeal against six-year ban to CAS

New Delhi: Disgrace UEFA president Michel Platini has formally made an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against a six-year ban.

The international sports tribunal on Wednesday said that Platini has lodged an appeal which could be completed before the European Championships start in June. That would allow him to attend the event if successful.

Platini and former FIFA boss Sepp Blatter were banned for six years each over a two million dollar payment made by FIFA to the former France captain.

However, the ban against the duo were reduced from eight years by a FIFA appeal committee on February 24.

In between, calls for Platini's resignation as head of UEFA continue to grow louder.

German Football Federation (DFB) Reinhad Rauball said Platini should stand down as UEFA chief because of the power vacuum in European football.

Platini is suspended and general secretary Gianni Infantino became FIFA president on Friday.
