Liverpool: Republic of Ireland international winger Aiden McGeady has joined Everton from Spartak Moscow, the Premier League club announced on Saturday.
The 27-year-old former Celtic player arrives for an undisclosed fee and has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract, having spent a little over three years in the Russian capital.
McGeady was presented to Everton`s fans prior to their 2-0 home win over Norwich City at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez revealed afterwards that the club had intended to sign McGeady for next season, before the opportunity arose for him to arrive immediately.
Martinez said that Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic`s proposed transfer to Hull City had been another contributory factor.
"Full credit to the chairman and the board. We were talking to Aiden and we agreed for him to come next season," Martinez explained.
"But because of his situation in Spartak, obviously that he wasn`t going to be involved too much, and the situation with Nikica Jelavic, we were quite happy to make it happen now."
A short, skilful wide player, McGeady spent six years at Celtic, during which time he won four Scottish Premier League titles, two Scottish League Cups and two Scottish Cups.
He also proved a success at Spartak following his £9.5 million ($15.6 million, 11.4 million euros) transfer from Celtic in 2010, helping them to a second-place finish in the Russian Premier League in 2012.
His move to Goodison Park sees him link up with Irish international team-mates Seamus Coleman, James McCarthy and Darron Gibson.
