Chelsea FC: Blues have improved but there is a long way to go

New Delhi: Interim Chelsea managers Guus Hiddink will be relieved that John Terry's controversial off-side call goal was given in their favour in the highly intense 3-3 draw against Everton on Saturday in the Premier League.

Chelsea are 14th in the EPL table and have mustered two successive draws in the week. What will bother Hiddink the most is that these draws have come at home where he would have liked to register victories.

Chelsea have gone seven games without a defeat across all competitions and there has been a significant improvement in their game especially offensively where they have started to score goals. But the defensive play and control in midfield can be questioned in this present scenario after conceding five goals in the last two games.

Chelsea's defensive woes despite having some seasoned names have been their major downfall this season as it was evident under former manager Jose Mourinho too this term and that has continued under Hiddink too.

Although Diego Costa has come back to score important goals, Hiddink will want to see his side's defence up the tempo and be more productive.

The Blues face a tough test against an in-form Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium next weekend and a lot will be seen during the game in what direction is the club heading this season.

Another trip to Watford will also test their mettle. Hiddink will hope to install more confidence in the side and he needs an improvement from his midfielders and defence to solve issues they are facing currently.

Hiddink had recently stated that his side are in a relegation battle but given his pedigree and the experience of the side, one expects the defending champions to step up and convert the progress made into wins.
