New Delhi: Manchester United's lack of cutting edge against PSV Eindhoven made them pay the price of having to leave it late in order to progress to the round of 16 in Champions league.
Group B is nicely placed with Wolfsburg leading with nine points, followed by United (8) and PSV lie third a point below. The stats for United is simple. They need nothing but a win in Germany against Wolfsburg to progress further.
Depending on CSKA Moscow to beat PSV in Holland could prove costly for Louis van Gaal's side. PSV have won both their matches at home and United on the other hand haven't registered an away victory in the Champions League Group Stage this season.
Wednesday's 0-0 draw against PSV at Old Trafford, saw United creating quite a many chances, but the lack of cutting edge in the final third proved costly. Both youngsters Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard had the opportunity to hand United the onus but it wasn't meant to be.
Gaal missed the creativity of Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick (both injured) as he will need his attackers to get more polished upfront in finishing chances. United's fate lies on their own hands and beating Wolfsburg will not be an easy affair.
United need to get in together and get two positive results in the Premier League and hope the confidence serves them well while travelling to Germany. Volkswagen Arena will be a nervy atmosphere for players and fans alike and United must believe they get their job done on December 8.
