New Delhi: Delhi Dynamos have been miserly in terms of scoring goals despite their third place standing in the Indian Super League and their player-coach Roberto Carlos is not unduly worried on this front, saying that his players will find the target at the right time.
Delhi are placed third with 15 points from nine matches but they have scored just eight goals, the least in the ISL season 2 so far. League leaders FC Goa have 20 goals to their credit, while even Chennaiyin FC placed at the bottom of the table have scored 11 goals.
Coach Carlos knows that his side have not scored enough but he is not pressing the panic button.
"The goals will come at the right time. I would have been more worried if we were not performing at all. We have to get on the pitch tomorrow against FC Pune City to win the game," Carlos said at the media briefing on the eve of Delhi match against FC Pune City.
"The problem is sometimes we are unlucky and we can't convert. But my team is doing its best to win. We have to be a little patient," he added.
Interestingly, Delhi have conceded the least number of goals -- eight -- as their defenders have kept it extremely tight at the back.
Carlos provided an insight into his decision of having four captains this season.
"It's something we tried at Corinthians (Brazillian club). I have Chicao, (John Arne) Riise, (Florent) Malouda and (Hans) Mulder. Anas (Edathodika) and Robin (Singh) are leaders and will also get a chance to captain later. It's a good way to divide the responsibility and it also helps to motivate the players to be leaders.
"I think it's good for the environment of the squad.
There is goalkeeper Toni (Doblas) as well, though I have not given him the armband because we already have so many captains. I think it has worked so far," said the Brazillian World Cup winner.
Defensive midfielder Anderson Sebastiao Cardoso (Chicao) said Delhi need to be more and get some goals.
"I have noticed that teams are struggling to play at home. We won away games and when we came back, it was harder.
We have to have more attitude in our home games, need to be more offensive. Our coach has been demanding this from us, to improve and get a win at home," he said.
FC Pune City coach David Platt conceded that Delhi defence would be difficult to break down.
"Delhi may not have scored a lot of goals but they have won considerable points. Their defensive record is better than the other teams and they are difficult to break down. They are very settled team, not too much rotation," said Platt.
"(John Arne) Riise is an experienced player. In defence you need people to talk and organise. He has been crucial in those terms as well with his organization and being vocal at the back John has utilised his experience playing in an unknown position too," Platt said.
Pune have not won any of their four matches played away from home, drawing two and losing the other two games. But Platt remained confident that they can get the necessary points that will help them qualify for the semifinals.
"I don't think playing away is a huge factor how we perform. I don't look at it as a concern. We can win matches between now and end of season," he said.
Platt said he will not mind going away with one point against the meanest defence in the league.
"I will take a draw. I think both teams will look for a win. They will set out for a win. Games can go either way, for any reason. We are here to win the game," said Platt.
Pune also have 15 points in their bag and are second on the table with a better goal difference of plus one than Delhi.
