Yuya Osako scored a perfect header off a brilliant corner steering Japan to a historic 2-1 win over Colombia in the Group H match.

MOSCOW: Japan scripted a historic win over Colombia, making the most of Colombia’s early red card in their 2-1 win over the South Americans. Japan’s Yuya Osako netted a perfect header, off a brilliant corner to score Japan’s second goal. Earlier, Carlos Sanchez was sent off after a handball in the penalty box, in the third minute of the game. Both sides face Poland and Senegal next in the Group H.

88 minute:  Excellent run by Johan Mojica but fails to make the most of it. Throw-in for Colombia. That was close!

76 minute: Corner for Colombia. Japan hold their nerve as they escape. Great block by Japanese defender.

65 minute: Corner for Japan. Colombia have failed to trouble the Japanese in the second-half. Japan, on the other hand, look spirited to take away three points from the game. 

64 minute: Yellow card! Colombia's Wilmar Barrios gets booked for a bad foul. 

62 minute: Can James Rodriguez inspire Colombia to a win from this stage. The Colombians have not had a shot on the Japenese goal so far. 

60 minute: Great run by the Japanese right-back but shoots it wide. Japan need to capitalise on their chances if they fancy themselves to win this match. 

58 minute: Substitution for Colombia, The golden boot winner of the 2014 World Cup, James Rodriguez replaces Juan Quintero. 

56 minute: MISS!! The Japanese players are knocking on the Colombian half early in the second-half. 

54 minute:  Brilliant pass by the Japanese player, but the forward hits it directly to the goalkeeper. Japan look determined. 

49 minute: Corner for Japan. Maya Yoshida could not turn and have a shot at the Colombian goal, gets outnumbered by Colombia's defenders. 

47 minute: The Japanese players need to accelerate in the second-half, they operated the ball slowly in the first-half and seemed to had lost their way after a dream start.

43 minute: Japan have lost their way after the goal, they are giving away free-kicks to Colombia. Never a dull moment in this match, at least in the first-half. 

Interestingly Colombia have never won a World cup match after conceding the opening goal.

38 minute: GOAL!!! Juan Quintero scores, Colombia equalise, the ball had clearly crossed the line. Colombia 1-1 Japan. 

37 minute: Free-kick to Colombia. Radamel Falcao draws a foul, Colombia have a chance to equalise. 

34 minute: That was close! Radamel Falcao barely makes contact to a lofted shot, as he directs the ball directly into the hands of the goalkeeper. 

32 minute: Corner for Japan! Japan are operating really well and hold the possession. 

31 minute: Substitution for Colombia. Barrios replaces Juan Cuadrado. 

27 minute: Free-kick to Japan. Japan look organised and composed. Can they score another before half-time? 

25 minute: Corner for Colombia. That was close. Japan seemed to have 'parked a bus' in their penalty box, forcing Colombians to shoot from long-range. 

23 minute:  Corner for Japan. Juan Quintero needs to take charge of the Colombian defence after Carlos was sent-off. 

19 minute: The Colombians are up and attacking the Japenese half but fail to find in-roads up-front, Japan defend well. 

15 minute: Japan need to survive the physically strong Colombian players. Japan lost to Colombia 4-1 in the group stages of the  2014 World Cup in Brazil. 

13 minute: Another free-kick to Colombia. Japan on the counter. Takashi Inui hits the ball wide, that could have been Japan's second goal. 

11 minute: Free-kick to Colombia. That was close! Radamel Falcao nearly got the Equaliser, but the Japanese goalkeeper was right behind it. 

That was the second quickest Red card ever given, the quickest red card was in 1986 when Uruguay's Jose Batista was sent off after 56 seconds in FIFA World Cup 1986 for fouling Scotland's Gordon Strachan

6 minute: GOAL!! Shinji Kagawa gives Japan a dream start with his 31st International goal. Japan 1-0 Columbia. 

3 minute: PENALTY!! RED CARD!! Carlos Sanchez gets the first red card of the tournament for a handball inside the penalty box. Sanchez takes the walk, massive blow for Colombia, as they are one man down. 

1 minute: Early free-kick to Colombia. All eyes on Radamel Falcao, who missed out on the previous edition with an ACL tear.

Colombia have tougher outings against Poland and Senegal after the Japan game and the Andean nation will look to repeat their group stage 4-1 2014 World Cup triumph over the Blue Samurais. Colombia were at their best in Brazil four years ago, reaching the quarter-finals, their best result ever. Since then, they have endured a downturn though, surviving a wretched World Cup qualifying campaign for Russia.
