Ravindra Jadeja: All-rounder's record in Australia doesn't inspire confidence

New Delhi: National selectors will later today announce India's squad for the five ODIs and three T20s to be played from January 12 to 31.

According to media reports, Ravindra Jadeja is almost certain to complete his comeback into the ODI side.

The all-rounder, dropped for the series against Zimbabwe and South Africa, is being thought of as an ideal number seven batsman who could bowl his full quota of overs.

Jadeja's inclusion also allows Team India to play five specialist bowlers.

However, the 27-year-old's previous record in Australia does not merit his selection for the upcoming tour.

In 16 outings, the left-hander has never managed to get past the score of 24 runs. In terms of bowling, Jadeja has never picked up more than two wickets in a match.

On pitches Down Under, Jadeja has scored over 20 runs on just two occasions.

On the other hand, Yuvraj has scored two fifties and a hundred in his 16 matches in Australia.

The swashbuckling left-hander is playing well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In his last two knocks, Yuvi has scored 98 and 78 (not out) against Mumbai and Rajasthan.

Prior to that, the Punjab skipper has registered scores of 36, 36, 93, 49, 12, 24, 43, 11, 6 and 187 in the ongoing domestic season.

There is no denying that Jadeja is a better fielder than Yuvraj, while the latter is clearly ahead in terms of batting.

While past bowling records show that they are bound to perform similarly in Australia.

Jaddu may have spun a web around the Proteas in home conditions, but he surely won't have the same effect on Australian pitches.

In such a scenario, should the selectors give Yuvraj one last chance?
