Dubai: Speaking ahead of the first England-Pakistan Test to be played here from today, skipper Andrew Strauss has urged English cricketers to turn in their friends for the sake of keeping cricket clean.
Strauss insisted that it was no time for loyalty following claims by Derbyshire seamer Tony Palladino - Westfield?s former team-mate at Essex - that county cricket is potentially rife with spot-fixers.
The Telegraph quoted him, as saying: ?This is not a time to be showing loyalty to team-mates or friends or people you know,? said Strauss. ?This is a time to be doing right for the game of cricket.?
It is an offence under the England and Wales Cricket Board regulations not to report any information regarding corruption within cricket.
The cricket board has set up an amnesty until April 30 so that players, who may have been reluctant previously, can hand it over.
?I think it?s a good initiative from the ECB and I?d urge players to come forward,? said Strauss.
He added: ?We need to root it out if it is there, get it dealt with, and move on. If you want world cricket to be in good order you need to make sure your own house is clean first.?
