New Delhi: Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan made amends for his poor game in the first Twenty20 International with a blistering 50 off 22 in the Ranchi match.

Putting into bat first in the second match of the series, Indian openers started fluently with Rohit Sharma finding his touch from the very first ball of the match, which he dispatched for a four.

After taking a couple of dot balls to open his account, Dhawan soon went into hyperactive mode, punishing Sri Lankan bowlers.

In his 25-ball stay, the 30-year-old scored his career best 51. The innings included seven fours and two sixes.

It was his first fifty in T20Is and fifth fastest for India after Yuvraj Singh (12), Gautam Gambhir (19), Yuvraj (20) and another Yuvi innings of 20 deliveries.

Dhawan tried to play over the wicket-keeper's head, but Dushmantha Chameera's delivery did enough to cramp the left-handed opener and the shot ended up as an easy catch behind the stumps, for Dinesh Chandimal.

India were 75 for one at the end of seventh over.
