After initial hiccups, Khawaja and Smith have brought the innings back on track with some good strokes. After a pathetic show by their batsmen, Sri Lankan bowlers have given their team a superb start by dismissing both the Australian openers. Warner, who has been in sublime form in the last few years, dragged one on to the stumps off Nuwan Pradeep in the second over of the innings. In his second over of the innings, Herath bamboozled Joe Burns with a delivery which skidded off the surface and went on to hit the stumps. Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith and the two new batsmen at the crease and Australia are in desperate need of a partnership here.

ALL OUT! Horrible day for the Lankans as they have been bowled in less than 35 overs. Once Lyon dismissed Perera for 20, it was a matter of time that the rest of the batsmen were sent to the pavilion.
It has been a remarkable performance by the Australian bowlers. While Hazlewood and Lyon picked three wickets each, Starc and O'Keefe scalped two wickets apiece.

Hazlewood picked his first wicket of the match when he dismissed Chandimal, who edged one to the keeper. Two overs later, bowling his second over, Nathan Lyon gave Lankans a double blow as he dismissed Dhananjaya De Silva and Dilruwan Perera in just three balls. After pacers, it was turn for Australian spinners to make their presence felt. Kusal Perera is unbeaten on 20, and being the last established batsman, it remains to be see how far can ge go.

Chandimal, on the other hand, is playing a sensible innings and the hosts need him to play a big knock using all his experience.

Australia picked two more wickets in the last eight overs. While Hazlewood dismissed Kaushal Silba, Steve O'Keefe scalped the big fish as Mathews edged one to Smith in the slip cordon. O'Keefe has been brilliant with his line and length so far and he could be the key for Australia during this Test series. Dhananjaya de Silva is the new man in and he has an excellent opportunity here to become Sri Lanka's new hero by playing a fine innings on his debut.

Mitchell Starc got the first breakthrough for the Aussies as he trapped Karunaratne in front of the wicket. While Starc troubled him with bouncers in the previous over, the batsman was beaten for pace and despite him going for a review, the decision remained unchanged. After coming to the crease, Mendis hit two boundaries off Starc but he too was trapped by Hazlewood. Sri Lanka, as expected, are wobbling. Dinesh Chandimal and Kaushal Silva are the two new batsmen at the crease and the hosts need them to stitch a partnership.

Since the retirement of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, Sri Lanka have struggled to sustain in the traditional format of the game.
