New Delhi: Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews on Wednesday promised "no mercy" for any team member found guilty of misconduct during their disastrous New Zealand tour, in which they suffered humiliating series defeats in all three formats of the game.
According to reports, an official probe had already begun into the allegations that Sri Lankan players attended parties until early morning even before the matches.
"I can`t deny or accept that these things happened. But, I can promise that there will be no mercy for any member found guilty of misconduct," Mathews told reporters at a post-tournament press conference in Colombo.
Earlier, Sri Lankan Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara had reportedly expressed his intention to call the skipper Mathews, manager Jeryl Woutersz and chief selector Kapila Wijegunawardane for a meeting to provide their explanations over the misconduct allegations.
The minister also claimed that he had received photographic evidence to suggest that players had indeed attended late night parties.
Sri Lanka had a dismal tour of New Zealand, which the skipper described as "'demoralising", with the Kiwis virtually having a clean-sweep winning all three series.
Sri Lanka lost the two-match Test series 0-2, five-match ODI series 1-3, and two-match Twenty20 series 0-2.
Their only win came in the third ODI match at Nelson, and the other match which they escaped defeat was the fourth match. The New Year's day match in Nelson was declared a 'No Result' thanks to incessant rain.
