Scoring county 'tons, double tons' will help Kevin Pietersen in earning recall: Alec Stewart

Wellington: Former England cricket team captain Alec Stewart believes that all sacked batsman Kevin Pietersen has to do to get a recall back to the national side is score runs, hit hundreds and double hundreds.

Pietersen, who was sacked last year following England's 5-0 Ashes defeat in Australia, has rejoined Surrey in an attempt to earn a recall after incoming England and Wakes cricket board (ECB) chairman Colin Graves said that he could return if he scores a lot of runs for a county.

Stewart, who is the director of cricket for county club Surrey, is confident that Pietersen, who scored 8,181 runs in 104 Tests for England and also won 136 ODI caps, can force his way back into the international setup, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Stewart said that because of what has been said previously by the selectors and other people to do with the ECB, all Pietersen has to do is score runs, adding that that is all they have asked the sacked batsman to do, come back score runs, get hundreds, double hundreds. He insisted that if Pietersen does that then they would see what the selectors do, or the people running English cricket.

Stewart added that everything else is out of his control, insisting that what Pietersen can control is out in the middle and that is scoring as many runs for Surrey as possible. He claimed that if the batsman does that it helps him and most importantly helps his club.
