New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer turned MP Sachin Tendulkar is a legend both on and off the field.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, staff of a Swarnamoyee Sasmal Sikhsa Niketan school in West Midnapore district of West Bengal had written to Tendulkar, seeking financial aid two years ago.

Tendulkar donated around Rs 76 lakh to the school from the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund. The report added that the school was handed the funds last financial year, and now the construction of a library, a laboratory and a common room for girls are in full swing.

“The realisation hasn’t yet sunk in. We have no words to express our gratitude,” the report quoted principal of the school Uttamkumar Mohanty as saying.

The school is now planning to invite the batting maestro for the inaugural ceremony of the newly installed facilities. “We will write to the MP to be present with us when we unveil the new infrastructure,” Mohanty said.
