New Delhi: The Supreme Court has asked the Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) to respond by March 3 to the report of Lodha committee recommending major structural changes in its Board.
Ever since the committee submitted its report, there have been concerns and apprehensions from all corners within the board regarding its implementation.
The apex court has asked the Indian board to respect the recommendations and respond within four week's time.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) earlier dropped hints that it was not comfortable with many recommendations made by Justice Lodha Panel on BCCI reforms but was willing to accept suggestions on transparency.
The MCA held its Managing Committee meeting on January 13 and discussed the 159-page report, submitted by the three-member Lodha Panel to the Supreme Court and the BCCI.
MCA is headed by 75-year-old Sharad Pawar and if recommendations were to be implemented in letter and spirit, the politician will have to relinquish his post since the suggestions do not allow any person above 70 years to hold an administrative post in BCCI or its affiliated units.
One of the key reforms proposed by the Lodha committee, which submitted its various recommendations yesterday, was to limit the selection panel to three former Test players retired at least five years prior to their appointment. It recommended setting up of a talent committee to facilitate the national selectors, reduce their workload and "increase the authority" of the panel.
