The Aussies have clearly dominated the game on day one, claiming six English wickets. Barring Kevin Pietersen, the English top-order has again failed to make an impact. This English side is deeply bruised, and it is now showing in their performance. Mitchell Johnson bowled the last over of the day, that was a maiden. By the close of play, KP was at 67 runs while Bresnen opened his account with a single. The Aussies will be looking forward to 4-0 while England need to win this to salvage some pride.

The last ten overs have been action-packed for the Aussies. They have taken two wickets - Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow. Both were victims to speedster Mitchell Johnson. KP remains, now at the crease with Tim Bresnen. Pietersen has completed his half-century and his wicket is now crucial to the English side. Mitchell claimed his first wicket of the day, when he started off with the new ball in the 81st over. Ben Stokes edged the ball and Shane Watson at the first slip, took the easy catch. Johnson bowled Bairstow out in the 84th over. The new ball has worked wonders for Johnson.

Ian Bell has fallen victim to Ryan Harris, just when England thought the duo was heading towards a good partnership. Ben Stokes joins Pietersen at the crease. Meanwhile, KP escaped yet another chance of getting out, courtesy a dropped catch by George Bailey at mid-wicket. Pietersen is nearing his half-century (46 runs) while Stokes is yet to open his account.

The MCG is jam packed. Rather there is a record crowd attendance, crossing 90,000. A world record! This Aussie side has to get a credit for this. On a winning spree, they deserve the home support. Meanwhile, the partnership between Bell and Pietersen has crossed the 50-run mark, a good sign for England. Pietersen is on 34 while Bell is on 20 runs. The Australian bowlers have delivered 20 maiden overs in the game till now.

The last five overs have piled up 21 runs for England, finally ending the drought of the last 10. KP just got lucky as Coulter-Nile misjudged a catch off Johnson's deliver. That was a close call for the Aussies.

Australia won the toss and opted to field first.
England have lost both their opening batsmen early on day one. Joe Root and Kevin Pietersen are now handling the English reign. Ryan Harris opened the Australian proceedings for the day. Siddle got the first breakthrough for Australia in the 17th over. The ball edged and landed straight to the Aussie skipper Michael Clarke at the second slip. In the post lunch session, Carberry was sent back to the pavilion by Shane Watson in the 34th over. This psychologically drained English side need to up their ante if they wish to reduce the chanced of a 5-0 humiliation.
