England turn to Bresnan, Root to rescue faltering Ashes campaign

London: England are set to recall Tim Bresnan and move Joe Root to No.3 in their bid to rescue their faltering Ashes campaign, according to reports.

According to the Mirror, Bresnan was officially added to the tour squad after proving his fitness with the England Performance Programme in Brisbane and is set to jump straight into the team in place of Chris Tremlett.

With England struggling to land the killer blow despite a good start with the ball in the First Test, the skill of Bresnan with reverse swing could be crucial on the drop-in pitch, while his runs would be a welcome boost, the report said.

England batting coach Graham Gooch claimed the decision on who would bat at No.3 in place of Jonathan Trott was yet to be decided, but dropped several hints that Root was the man in line for the job, the report added.

Having been moved up and down the order in his 12 months as an England player, Root appears to be the most adaptable batter at their disposal, but the need to make the most of Ian Bell`s talents at five will also play a part, the report further said.

He said that Root would relish the opportunity but Bell had scored a lot of runs at five, so it was a technical thing
