Quinton de Kock is going to make mistakes as he is still very raw: Boucher

Johannesburg: Former South African wicketkeeper Mark Boucher has warned the team against pushing young wicketkeeper- batsman Quinton de Kock too hard and too quickly.

According to Sport24, the retired multiple record-holder in international cricket expressed his `happiness` with the `current situation` of the 20-year-old De Kock wearing the gloves for South Africa in the two one-day formats and the more seasoned superstar AB de Villiers doing the job at Test level.

However, Boucher said that he has been always wary of pushing a player too early by showering him with praises and comparing him to experienced, senior stars, adding that he believes that the team should give De Kock a fair chance and `pump the brakes a bit`.

According to Boucher, De Kock needs to really get used to international cricket before any comparisons are made, adding that as the youngster is still finding his feet, he must be allowed to do so by being clever with him and not pushing him too early, which may risk his career.

Boucher further said that even though De Kock had a nice time in the games against Pakistan with his century, he is going to make mistakes as he is still very raw, although he believes that as long as De Kock is in the right hands and is mentored the right way then he can go from strength to strength.
