New Delhi: Brendon McCullum on Saturday was at his absolute best on Day 1 of the 2nd Test between New Zealand and Australia at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

Several records tumbled as the Kiwi skipper hit the fastest ton in Test history in his final international match.

The explosive right-hander's hundred came off just 54 balls, breaking the previous best of 56 balls by Viv Richards and Misbah-ul-Haq.

On the fifth ball he faced he hit Mitchell Marsh over the bowler's head for six to reach 101 and topple former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist with the most Test cricket sixes.

His 145-run knock comprised of 21 fours and 6 sixes. The 34-year-old now has 106 Test sixes to his credit.
