New Delhi: MS Dhoni is currently in the news not for his performance in the Indian Premier League, but for his association with the Amrapali Group.
India's limited-overs cricket captain on Friday quit as brand ambassador of the company after mounting criticism by unhappy Noida residents.
The first phase of the firm's project Sapphire, which was launched in 2009, has been completed and about 800 families have moved in out of 1,000 flats, but civil and electrical work in many towers is still incomplete, according to the residents.
Dhoni bowed to their demands after a sustained campaign on social media.
On Saturday, star spinner Harbhajan Singh backed Mahi's decision and recounted his own experience with Amrapali.
According to Bhajji, Team India cricketers were promised villas by the real estate giant after the 2011 World Cup win.
However, that promise is yet to be fulfilled by the company right to this day. The veteran Punjab cricketer then went on to term that announcement by the company as a publicity stunt.
Well done @msdhoni for dropping #Amarpali builders s brand ambassadorship..they didn't gave us VILLAS they announce after 2011 worldcup win

Such an honest grievance on #Amrapali issue. Bhajji Bhai, they aren't giving homes even to those who paid for them https://t.co/jf5uaacPxI
