MP cricketer to record statement before court on Dec 5

Indore: The under-19 woman cricketer, who had accused former Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association joint secretary Alpesh Shah of sexually harassing her, will have her statement recorded by a local court on December 5 here.

The prosecution today requested Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Savita Singh to record the 18-year-old girl`s statement under Section 164 of the CrPC to which the court agreed and asked her to be present on December 5 before it.

Shah had stepped down as MPCA joint secretary a few days back after being accused of sexual harassment by the under-19 woman cricketer.

The girl had alleged that Shah called her to his room at the Holkar Stadium Administrative Block on September 23 to give "special blessings". She had accused Shah of allegedly trying to molest her when she went to his office.

The police registered a case against Shah under Section 354 of IPC on November 28 a day after the incident came into media spotlight.

The police sources said Shah has been absconding since the case was registered against him and they have not been able to find any proof to nail him.

Meanwhile, hearing on a petition from Shah, the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court asked the prosecution to inform it about the status of the case by tomorrow.

Shah`s lawyer claimed that the girl has falsely implicated his client as she was not selected in the under-19 team of the state.
