REVEALED: Why Gujarat Lions are playing Aaron Finch in middle and not as opener after injury comeback in IPL 2016

New Delhi: Much to the surprise of several cricket fans and pundits, Gujarat Lions continue to play Australian batsman Aaron Finch in the middle-order, and not at the top where he slammed three consecutive fifties in the beginning of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016.

After a terrific start to the tournament, Finch missed out on few matches for the Suresh Raina-led side due to a hamstring injury.

But since he made he comeback into the team, he has been played in the middle overs, where he hasn't been that successful.

When asked about the reason behind such move, Lions' pacer Praveen Kumar said, "It's a strategy to play him in the middle. It's about being flexible."

While Finch scored 191 runs from four matches as opener, he has amassed just 85 runs from three matches playing in the middle post his comeback from injury.

With seven wins from 11 matches, Lions are currently the table-toppers in the points table.
