IPL 2016: When Virat Kohli asked Royal Challengers Bangalore management to drop him from playing XI

Bangalore: Virat Kohli is one of the most exciting batsmen to watch in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), but there was a time when he had asked his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) management to drop him from the team. (IPL 2016: FULL COVERAGE)

Kohli, during his initial days with the red and gold brigade, wasn't happy with his batting position and wanted a promotion in the batting order to do full justice to his potential. It was then that he told the think tank to either send him up in the batting order, or leave him out. (ALSO SEE: IPL 2016 POINTS TABLE)

“I addressed that (with the team management) and they understood that I want to bat up the order because I can contribute more to the team. Because I wasn’t doing justice to the position I was playing in, I told them ‘you can leave me out because I don’t think I am able to do much at the spot you are making me play. Someone else may be able to do the job better’,” the 27-year-old was quoted as saying in a Mid-Day report.

Kohli is a vital cog in RCB's batting powerhouse which now comprises Chris Gayle, AB de Villliers and Shane Watson.

The Delhi batsman also remains to be one of the rare players to have played for just one team since the IPL’s inception in 2008.
