Indian Premier League 2016: Chris Morris does justice to whopping price tag for Delhi Daredevils with incredible 82-run knock

New Delhi: The Delhi Daredevils might have lost their match against Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday, but all-rounder Chris Morris almost single-handedly pulled off a spectacular win for the team.

The South African all-rounder, who was roped in by the Daredevils for a whopping Rs 7 crore at the auction earlier this year, proved that he was worth every penny spent as he followed his two-wicket haul against Gujarat Lions with a mind blowing 32-ball 82.

Chasing a decent total of 172 runs, Zaheer Khan-led team was in a precarious position after Lions' pacer Dhawal Kulkarni ripped through their top-order dismissing Quinton de Kock (5), Sanju Samson (1) and Karun Nair (9) for paltry scores.

The Daredevils were wobbling at 57/4 at one stage, post which Morris, along with JP Duminy (48), resurrected the innings with a brilliant 87-run stand for the fifth-wicket partnership. Even after Duminy's departure in the 18th over, Morris continued to find boundaries.

Morris's stupendous effort went in vain as Daredevils failed to score 18 runs required off the last two overs and eventually suffered a one-run defeat.

After the match, in what was a great gesture, Lions' players were full of respect for Morris' incredible knock.
