New Delhi: Legendary Australian wicket-kepper batsman Adam Gilchrist failed to see himself as a full-time Team India coach, but said that he is open to temporary coaching stints like in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is hunting for a coach to replace Ravi Shastri, who was helping the team out as team director. Shastri's tenure came to an end recently, after India's ICC World Twenty20 campaign.
Many former greats of the game, including Gilchrist, have been linked to the India job. But the 44-year-old has distanced himself from the rumours, and flatly denied any possibility of him taking up India job.
But he kept options open to take up coaching role in the IPL.
"Coaching a team full-time is probably unlikely. I am not really seeing myself as a coach but may be some involvement down the track in the IPL," he told PTI.
"I don't see myself in any full time role and with the BCCI, you really need to commit full time which is understandable but at the moment I am open to opportunities in IPL down the track. I have loved my experience in the IPL," he added.
Gilchrist famously led the now defunct Deccan Chargers to the IPL title in 2009. He then captained Kings XI Punjab, where he was given a dual role of also coaching the team.
BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee which includes Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman will decide who becomes Indian's new coach.
Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid is heavily tipped to be become the new India coach but the legend said he would need to first check the "bandwith".
