New Delhi: According to a report in the Indian Express, Interpol has sought contracts and documents on the Indian Premier League under former commissioner Lalit Modi from the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The ED had earlier issued a Red Corner Notice (RCN), using these papers, against Modi on alleged money laundering charges
The Interpol's decision comes a fortnight after the ED replied to its queries on the controversial cricket administrator.
The CBI, on September 26, forwarded a letter from Interpol to the ED where the global agency requesting copies of the agreements between Multi Screen Media Singapore (MSMS), World Sports Group (WSG) Mauritius and the BCCI.
ED is now preparing to reply to the Interpol, expecting definitive response form the global agency on the RCN against Modi by mid-October.
As per the ED, the Indian board awarded 10-year media rights of the cash-rich league in 2008 to WSG India for $642 million and MSMS for $276 million for specific regions.
Modi, in 2009, ended ties with MSMS, citing alleged violation of rules and regulations. He then penned a fresh deal with WSG Mauritius without conducting a tender process.
The nine-year deal was worth a whopping Rs 4,792 crore.
BCCI then signed deals with MSMS, which stated that the latter would pay the board Rs 3,949 crore for match broadcast rights. MSMS also agreed to a deal with WSG Mauritius for a Rs 425-crore facilitation fee, which according to BCCI had to come into its coffers.
