Is South African batting-line up prepared for stern test against India?

New Delhi: Even after humbling India in limited-overs formats, South African Test team which is set to play a four-match series against home side is looking quite vulnerable.

In the 15-member squad, only five players have previously played Test cricket in India.

Senior player like Faf du Plessis, who has been in outstanding form with the willow, is yet to play a Test on Indian soil.

Another concern for the visiting team is the poor form of their premier batsman Hashim Amla, who is set to lead the side in the longest format.

Besides that, JP Duminy, who has been an integral part of the South African outfit in all three formats of the game, has a poor Test record in this part of the world. Interestingly, the southpaw's batting average in India is less than tail-enders like Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel.

Playing on turning tracks against quality spin bowling is going to be a challenge which Saffers will face on this tour.

In such a situation, senior batsmen in the team – AB de Villiers, Amla, Faf, Duminy – have to take the responsibility on their shoulders to lead the side by examples and make it an even contest.
