Visakhapatnam: Indian cricket team registered a comprehensive 246-run win against England on Day 5 of the second Test at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Indian spinners bounced back after a dismal show in the first Test by taking six of the remaining eight wickets on the final day. Apart from the spinners, skipper Virat Kohli's stupendous Test hundred in the first essay and another 81-run knock in the second innings made headlines.
But amid all these record breaking performances, what went unnoticed was a rare over bowled by R Ashwin, wherein the offie bowled just five deliveries. In the 47th over of England's second innings, the umpire handed over Ashwin's cap to him with one ball remaining.
Here's what happened in that over bowled to Alastair Cook, ball by ball:
46.1 - Ashwin conceded two byes as the ball went past the Wriddhiman Saha;
46.2 - Cook defended the second ball for no run;
46.3 - Third ball hit Cook on the pads, no runs scored;
46.4 - Ashwin's fourth ball hit Cook on the pads again, this time Indian team erupting to a vociferous appeal. Kohli went for a review as Ashwin was confident the delivery hit the pad first. The review however didn't go India's way;
46.5 - Cook took a single off the fifth ball as the England captain drove it towards short cover, where a misfield resulted in a single.
That was it!
While that one pending ball would not make any impact in the Test match, evidently with India winning comfortably, but it's something which we don't see often in international cricket.
