New Delhi: Many cricket pundits raised eyebrows when all-rounder Stuart Binny was picked in the list of 15-member Indian squad for the ICC World Cup 2015, in Australia and New Zealand.

As the batting all-rounder has been picked over the big names like Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa, his performance in the World Cup will be seriously monitored.

If Indian selectors and skipper MS Dhoni picked the 30-year-old ahead of proven match-winners, it means he has an important role to play in the forthcoming World Cup, starting from February 14.

And if he is in the scheme of things for Dhoni & Co, then he should be given opportunities in the on-going triangular series featuring India, Australia and England.

In their opening match against Australia, he didn't find a place in the playing XI, which India lost by four wickets.

Team India will play their second match of the series on Tuesday against England at Brisbane Cricket Ground.

In the tune-up series, all the three teams are trying and testing different players and different combinations. It would be a perfect time for Dhoni to give the all-rounder enough confidence ahead of the prestigious event by giving him a chance to play a couple of matches in the series.

If Binny gets a chance on Tuesday, then he has to prove himself, which will not only enhance his reputation, but also give Dhoni enough confidence to use him as a trump card in the quadrennial event.
