ICC World Twenty20: Chris Morris could be South Africa's trump card after heroics against England

New Delhi: South Africa's all-rounder Chris Morris has showed once again as to why he could make the difference for the Proteas after winning the first T20I for his side against England on Friday.

Morris has been a pivotal figure for the Proteas in recent times and has dictated proceedings under pressure to highlight his substance. On Friday, Morris slammed an unbeaten 17 runs after making the difference in the last over with a four and a six, to hand the hosts a three-wicket victory off the final ball in a low scoring thriller.

Morris's presence in the side has made a huge difference for South Africa in crossing the line from difficult situations. His value also underlines his bowling and that comes as a package of substance for the versatile Proteas.

Earlier against England, Morris played a huge role in getting South Africa back in the ODI series that helped them to gain momentum and seal the tourney 3-2. Morris had scored a brilliant match-winning knock of 62 runs in South Africa's chase and batted superbly under pressure with the lower order batsmen.

On Friday too, Morris displayed calmness in a tight situation and showed the right sense of attitude, which is becoming a vitality for the Proteas.

The 28-year-old all-rounder is expected to play a significant role for his side in the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 in India starting from March 8. His experience in sub-continent conditions will be vital given he had played regualarly for the suspended Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

His value was identified by the Delhi Daredevils who splashed the bucks to sign him in this year's auction in the IPL on February 6. South Africa will be desparate to perform well in ICC events and with the World Cup around the corner, this side knows they can up the tempo as majority of the players are familiar with Indian conditions.

South Africa also beat India 3-0 in the T20 series in October 2015 to highlight that they will be a potent force. And with Morris in the mix, their say could be more loud in setting the tone right in the coveted tourney.
