New Delhi: After yesterday's sensational revelation from Cricket South Africa of an unnamed former international being charged for match-fixing, reports emerged on Thursday hinted that the player could be Gulam Bodi.
According to a report in South African online publication Sport24 claimed that at least three sources have confirmed that the former Former Proteas, Titans and Lions player is the key figure in the investigation into the latest cricket match-fixing scandal.
Bodi, an Indian-born cricketer, has represented South African at Under-19, Twenty20 and ODI level. And he was picked by Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Daredevils in 2012.
Yesterday, reports said the player, who is referred to as the "intermediary", was charged following attempts to influence results in South Africa's domestic competition, the Ram Slam T20 Challenge.
In mid-December 2015, Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed that its Anti-Corruption and Security Unit had charged a perpetrator - operating as an intermediary - under its Anti-Corruption Code for contriving to "fix, or otherwise improperly influence aspects of last year's tournament".
Today's report also said that the 37-year-old had been provisionally suspended in December.
The tournament, which ran between November 1 and December 12, 2015, was won by the Titans who beat the Dolphins by seven wickets in a one-sided final at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
It's worth mentioning that so-called "Hansie clause" was introduced to South Africa's Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act Law in 2004, following the 2000 infamous match-fixing scandal involving former skipper Hansie Cronje.
