Melbourne: Cricket Australia has decided to donate USD 100,000 for Queensland flood relief and also appealed to cricket fans to get behind the cause.
The Queensland flash floods have left 12 people dead and 51 missing so far.
Cricket Australia Chairman Jack Clarke said the destructive natural disaster had affected the lives of many Australians areas and it was appropriate for the game of cricket to do its bit to help out.
"There is nothing good in this crisis but it has been reassuring to see how strongly the wider community has responded by offering its support to their fellow Australians," he said.
"It has been heartening to hear of cricket clubs putting on sausage sizzles to raise money, fans wanting to make donations, Australian and English male and female cricketers offering to help and cricket`s commercial partners calling to ask what they can do to help."
Cricket Australia, the Commonwealth Bank and Channel 9 originally planned to use the 30 January Brisbane Commonwealth Bank Australia ODI as a fund raiser, recreating the processes used for the cricket bushfire appeal two summers ago.
The worsening crisis has prompted a decision to broaden the cricket appeal to also include activity such as at match donation collections at the two KFC International Twenty20s starting in Adelaide tonight and each of the Commonwealth Bank ODIs leading up to the Brisbane match.
