Broad’s abuse of umpire unacceptable, says Cook

London: England one-day cricket team captain Alastair Cook has branded fast bowler Stuart Broad`s abuse of umpire Billy Bowden as unacceptable.

Broad has been docked 50 per cent of his match fee - around £1,500 - for abusing umpire Billy Bowden in Friday`s loss at Headingley.

A leading daily reported Cook, 26, as saying: "He overstepped the mark and admitted it. But Broady has always played that way - its part of what has made him go so far in the game so quickly. Hopefully he won``t do it again.

Cook now faces two must-win games against Sri Lanka to avoid defeat in his first series as full-time one-day skipper.
