New Delhi: In what could be a major blow to the proposed bilateral series between India and Pakistan, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two boards in 2014 has come under the scanner.
According to a CNN IBN report, there are dark clouds hovering over the much-awaited series since the question being asked is how could the BCCI sign a MoU considering the current state of affairs between the two countries?
The report also claimed that the erstwhile BCCI regime led by N Srinivasan, struck a deal with the PCB, where they offered them a MoU in exchange of their vote for ICC's restructuring.
The report further added that in case BCCI backs out from playing the series, the PCB can sue them for an amount ranging between 75 – 100 million dollars.
The final decision regarding the future of the series is pending with the Indian government after a green signal was given by Nawaz Sharif recently.
Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla had earlier confirmed that Sri Lanka had been decided as the neutral venue for the much-anticipated series between the neighbouring countries.
Notably, Najam Sethi was chairman of the board when the PCB and BCCI signed a MOU last year under which the two countries agreed to play six series against each other between 2015 and 2023 with Pakistan hosting the first series in December this year in UAE.
India has not played a full bilateral Test series with Pakistan after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
