Azhar Mahmood to play for Highveld Lions in Proteas domestic T20s

Johannesburg: Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood will represent the Highveld Lions in the upcoming South African domestic T20 competition, according to reports.

According to Sport24, Mahmood, 38, represented the Cape Cobras last season but decided to join fellow Pakistani Sohail Tanvir at the Johannesburg-based franchise.

Mahmood`s availability is limited to only five matches though, but fast-bowler Tanvir will be available for the majority for the tournament, the report said.

It will be Tanvir`s third season with the Lions, the report added.

Mahmood`s addition to the Lions squad brings the tally of overseas players for the competition to seven, the report further said.

The other players are Pakistan duo, Shahid Afridi (Knights) and Saaed Ajmal (Titans), West Indies duo, Sunil Narine (Cape Cobras) and Chris Gayle (Dolphins), and England`s Graham Onions (Dolphins), according to the report.

The local T20 competition starts on January 5 and runs until February 9, the report mentioned.
