New Delhi: Star batsman Virat Kohli has started 2016 off with a bang.
The right-hander has hit back-to-back fifties in the first two ODIs of the ongoing series against Australia.
In the 1st ODI at Perth, Kohli was caught at mid-on for 91. His dismissal was seen as an act of selflessness by observers for trying to score quick runs despite being so close to a ton.
In the 2nd, he was run out for 59 while scampering back for a second run.
After scoring 150 runs in his two outings, Kohli is now just 19 runs short of reaching the 7000-run mark in ODIs.
The right-hander is now on course to become the fastest in history to get to that milestone.
Currently, AB de Villiers holds that record. The South African reached 7000 ODI runs in 166 innings.
Kohli is now at 6981 runs in 160 outings.
Considering the form he is in at the moment, the Delhi lad is likely to break De Villiers' record in the third ODI.
However one thing is for certain, Kohli would be more than happy to trade this personal record for an ODI series win Down Under.
