India's tour of Australia: Glenn Maxwell could miss fifth ODI at SCG

New Delhi: Australia's hard-hitting batsman Glenn Maxwell who slammed a quickfire 41 runs on Wednesday, is in doubt for the fifth and final ODI against India at the SCG.

The in-form middle-order batsman injured his knee in their fourth consecutive win of the ODI series. Maxwell entertained the crowd with a breezy blitz. His knock helped Australia post a challenging 348 for eight at the Manuka Oval.

Maxwell was hit on an unprotected area as he bent his right leg in an attempt to work a ball from Indian pacer Ishant Sharma on the leg side.

According to reports, it has been learnt that his injury would be assessed in the coming days. There is swelling and discomfort in his knees.

Maxwell who bowled an over at Canberra, was replaced by Shaun Marsh as a substitute fielder.

Meanwhile, India's Ajinkya Rahane is also a doubt for the remainder of the series. Rahane underwent stitches in his right hand and is definitely going to miss the encounter in Sydney. His participation in the 3-match T20 series hangs in the balance.

Earlier, pacer Mohammed Shami was injured in the warm-up game prior to the ODI series and was sent back home.
