India vs Australia 2016: Absence of James Pattinson leaves experts perplexed

New Delhi: Despite winning the 1st ODI quite comfortably, chinks in Australia bowling armor were exposed by the Indian batsmen.

Powered by an unbeaten century from Rohit Sharma, the Men in Blue registered their highest ever total against Australia in Australia with a total of 309 in 50 overs.

The second ODI too followed a similar script, with Sharma and co dominating the Aussie bowlers.

In Josh Hazlewood's absence, the current pace attack with Scott Boland, Kane Richardson and Joel Paris failed to make any impact in the second ODI.

With plenty of runs being leaked and difficulty in picking wickets, the Aussie pace battery has come under severe criticism from former players and commentators.

One pertinent question asked by the likes of Brett Lee is with regards to the exclusion of James Pattinson.

The pacer was not included for the ODI series against India despite being fit and available for selection.

Cricket Australia opted to rest the injury-prone bowler after the three Tests against West Indies.

However, with lack of aggression and penetration by the current Australian bowlers, experts are now left wondering as to why Pattinson wasn't picked by the selectors.

The 25-year-old is now expected to play for Melbourne Renegades in next week's must-win Big Bash League clash with the Adelaide Strikers.
