Australia vs India: Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan tons go in vain as India lose 4th match on trot

New Delhi: Dominant Australia came back from a position of defeat to beat India comfortably by 25 runs in the end to win the 4th ODI at Canberra.

Kane Richardson struck a match-winning 5-wicket haul to help Australia win after India were cruising at 277/1 at one stage in their pursuit of Australia's 348.

Earlier, the hosts won the toss and elected to bat for the first time in this series.

Their openers once again gave them a flying start as David Warner (93) and Aaron Finch (107) added 187-run stand for the first wicket in 30 overs to set the platform for a big total.

Quick-fire knocks by in-form Steven Smith (51 off 37) and Glenn Maxwell (41 off 29) kept the momentum going as eventually Australia managed to put up a mammoth total of 348 runs.

For India Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav were amongst the wickets.

In their chase, India started on a positive note as both openers -- Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma – added 65-runs inside first eight overs.

Even after losing Sharma's wicket, Virat Kohli and Dhawan then went on to stitch a 212-run stand for the 2nd wicket and took India to 277 in 37.3 overs at the loss of one wicket.

Both Dhawan and Kohli found the gap with ease and kept the run-flow going comfortable as Aussies bowlers failed to find a feet.

Both the batsmen went on to score hundreds and they were cruising well. However, the table turned for Australia when they got the priced wicket of Dhawan (126) who hit straight at Bailey off Hastings.

From there on the visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals and lost the match, without even playing their entire quota of 50 overs.

Kane Richardson ran through that Indian batting order boasting of inexperience. He finished off with a sounding spell of 5/68 in his ten overs.

With their fourth loss on the trot, India are trailing 4-0 in the series and are on the verge of facing a white wash.
