New Delhi: Sri Lanka's stand-in captain Angelo Mathews said that the side hasn't clicked as a batting order ahead of the ICC World T20 in India starting next week.
Sri Lanka lost against India in the ongoing Asia Cup in Mirpur, Dhaka on Tuesday. The Lankan side's batting effort wasn't up to the mark and India won the match by five wickets.
A worried looking Mathews said that the Sri Lankan side cannot keep losing citing about the lackslustre batting order.
"It's quite damaging, especially for the confidence level and the morale. You can't keep losing, it's difficult to digest. We haven't played our best yet and the most worrying thing is that we haven't clicked as a batting order. So close to the World T20, we have to connect the dots together and maybe try a few combinations," an upset Mathews said.
Sri Lankan opener Tillakaratne Dilshan has been out of sorts of late and Mathews said that the side needs to have faith in the squad the selectors have chosen.
"I think everybody hits a rough patch, and he (Dilshan) has had a few rough patches here and there. We all need to take responsibility. Not just the seniors. The selectors and the captain have picked a squad, which they think is good. And so we have to try and go out there with who we have in the squad. We need to have faith in them and move forward," Mathews said.
Sri Lanka have won one and lost two matches in the Asia Cup so far. They are yet to face Pakistan. The island nation could be heading out of the tournament on Wednesday itself, if Bangladesh beat Shahid Afridi's Pakistan team.
